Giving Season

It's the busiest time of year for making donations and sending gifts to charities. View our list of important dates to make sure that you receive a 2024 tax receipt.

Having an Impact Account makes giving easy. But don't worry if you don't have one yet – you can still support your favourite charity, Giving Group, or Campaign.

Give by credit card

Give to a charity

  1. To find the charity to give to: 
    • Go to charitableimpact.com.
    • Click the magnifying glass icon at the top of the page. 
    • Type the name of the charity you would like to give to in the search field. 
    • Select the charity from the search results.
  2. Select the gift amount or enter a custom amount, then select Give on the charity page. 
  3. Select the frequency in which you would like to send the gift: 
    • Once - send the gift once 
    • Monthly - send the gift once a month, on the 1st or 15th of each month. Note: Monthly gifts require you to create an Impact Account. You’ll be asked to create one in the next step.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. Enter your email address.
  6. Enter your payment details. Note: Charges to your card appear as “CHARITABLE IMPACT.” 
  7. Enter your tax receipt recipient information.
  8. Select the information you would like to share with the charity.
  9. Optional: Include a message with your gift. The charity will receive this message with your gift.
  10. Optional: Select the checkbox to open a free Impact Account and enter your information.
  11. Select Review.
  12. Review your gift details, then select Send gift or Send gift and create my Impact Account.

Give to a Giving Group or Campaign

  1. To find the Giving Group or Campaign to give to: 
    • Go to charitableimpact.com.
    • Select the magnifying glass icon at the top of the page. 
    • Type the name of the Giving Group or Campaign you would like to give to in the search field. 
    • Select the Giving Group or Campaign from the search results.
  2. Select Give on the Giving Group or Campaign page.
  3. If the Giving Group or Campaign you’re giving to has enabled monthly gifts, select the frequency in which you would like to send the gift: 
    • Once - send the gift once 
    • Monthly - send the gift once a month, on the 1st or 15th of each month. Note: Monthly gifts require you to create an Impact Account. You’ll be asked to create one in the next step.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. Enter your email address.
  6. Enter your payment details. Note: Charges to your card appear as “CHARITABLE IMPACT.” 
  7. Enter your tax receipt recipient information.
  8. Select the information you would like to share with the Giving Group or Campaign.
  9. Optional: Include a message with your gift to the Giving Group members and Giving Group admin, or Campaign admin. 
  10. Optional: Select the checkbox to open a free Impact Account and enter your information.
  11. Select Review.
  12. Review your gift details, then select Send gift or Send gift and create my Impact Account.

Give by direct debit

Complete the direct debit form via DocuSign to make a one-time donation over $200 to a charity, Giving Group, or Campaign.

Give by cheque

Important: Canada Post workers are on a national strike

Please do not mail cheque donations if you wish to receive a 2024 tax receipt. Instead, we encourage you to donate by credit card or direct debit.

If you prefer to courier a cheque to us, please make sure it’s received by Dec 31 at 12 pm (noon) Pacific Time to be eligible for a 2024 tax receipt.

We are working with charities to ensure they receive your gifts electronically.

Complete the Add Money by Cheque form to make a one-time donation to a charity, Giving Group, or Campaign. Address the cheque to CHIMP: Charitable Impact Foundation (Canada).

Tax receipts for cheque donations

When making a donation by cheque, a tax receipt will be electronically issued to you by email (so please be sure to include your email address on the cheque donation form). If you haven’t received your tax receipt by email within four (4) weeks of sending your cheque, please contact us at hello@charitableimpact.com.

We also accept non-cash donations

Charitable Impact accepts donations of publicly traded securities, private company shares, cryptocurrency, life insurance, real estate, and art. An Impact Account is required to facilitate non-cash donations. Learn how to donate non-cash assets and reach out to philanthropy@charitableimpact.com to get started.

Good to know

Scheduling monthly gifts requires an Impact Account

An Impact Account is required to give monthly to charities, Giving Groups, or Campaigns on Charitable Impact.
Each month, the gift amount you choose is charged to your payment method and deposited to your Impact Account. Gifts to charities, Giving Groups, or Campaigns then come from the balance of your Impact Account.

Updating your credit card details for monthly gifts

If you need to update the credit card details for your monthly gift, you will need to cancel your monthly gift first and then set it up again with the new credit card. See the section below on how to cancel monthly gifts made without an Impact Account. 
Note that when you set up a monthly gift with the new credit card on Charitable Impact, you will now need to sign up for an Impact Account. Having an Impact Account enables you to easily manage your gifts, access your tax receipts, and update your credit card details without having to cancel and recreate your monthly gifts.
If you’re making a donation using a donation button on a charity or fundraising webpage (outside of charitableimpact.com), you can set up a new monthly gift with new credit card details without having to sign up for an Impact Account

Cancelling monthly gifts in your Impact Account

If you’ve created monthly gifts in the past on Charitable Impact, these monthly gifts can continue without an Impact Account. 
If you need to cancel your monthly gift, find and open the email from hello@charitableimpact.com under the subject line “Thanks for setting up a monthly gift to...”. Select cancel your monthly gift at the bottom of the email.

Consolidating monthly gifts in your Impact Account

It’s important to know that existing monthly gifts you’ve set up on Charitable Impact in the past will not get transferred to your Impact Account upon account creation.
If you have now signed up for an Impact Account and wish to manage all your monthly gifts from your account, you’ll need to cancel the monthly gift you created without an account (see above), and re-create it when logged in to your Impact Account.
