Close your Impact Account

If you wish to close your Impact Account, you can do so anytime from the web or mobile app. By closing your account, you will no longer be able to access your giving activity, tax receipts, profile information, or messages. If you’re an admin on other Impact Accounts, you will no longer be able to administer those accounts. Only the Impact Account owner can close their Impact Account.

Note:

We are required to keep records of your donations and tax receipts for up to 7 years. This is a requirement from the Canada Revenue Agency in compliance with the Income Tax Act.

Before closing your account

  • Download your tax receipts 

Take a moment to download your tax receipts for your records.

  • Clear your account balance

Your account must have a zero balance before it can be closed. 

  • If you have $5 or more remaining in your Impact Account

You can send any remaining charitable dollars to a friend, charity, Giving Group, or Campaign to clear your account balance.

  • If you have less than $5 remaining in your Impact Account

You can send any remaining charitable dollars to a Giving Group, Campaign, or friend to clear your account balance. You won’t be able to give to a charity due to minimum gift amounts required.

  • Transfer any admin roles

If you are the only admin for a Giving Group, Campaign, Company Account, or Charity Account, you’ll need to transfer your admin role to someone else before closing your account. If there’s no one to transfer your admin role to, please get in touch with us for help with closing your account.

Note about Impact Accounts linked to a Charitable Investment Account:

If your Impact Account is linked to a Charitable Investment Account, please get in touch with us for help with closing your account.

Close your account 

On the web:

  1. Select your avatar in the top-right corner of your dashboard, then select Settings.
  2. Select Privacy in the left navigation. 
  3. Scroll down and select Proceed to close your account near the bottom of the page.
  4. Download any tax receipts and complete any required actions.
  5. Select Continue to close account.
  6. Enter your password, then select Continue to close account.
  7. Select Close account to confirm.

On the mobile app:

  1. Select the burger menu at the top-left of the screen.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Privacy.
  4. Select Close account.
  5. Download any tax receipts and complete any required actions.
  6. Select Continue to close account.
  7. Enter your password, then select Continue to close account.
  8. Select Close account to confirm.
