Create and manage a Charitable Allowance

What is Charitable Allowance?

Charitable Allowance is a simple tool to teach your kids and teens about generosity, financial literacy, and how to contribute to the world around them.

Give them a regular allowance to donate to charities and causes they care about. Whether it’s rescuing animals, helping the environment, or supporting a hobby they love, they’ll get the chance to develop social responsibility and a sense of purpose.

How does Charitable Allowance work?

As an Impact Account owner, you can create a Charitable Allowance and add recipients. You can add up to 9 recipients and create up to 3 Charitable Allowances.

An Impact Account will be created for each recipient, but it will be owned and managed by you with limited functionality for the recipient.

Once the allowance is set up, you can schedule gifts to each recipient on a weekly, monthly, or yearly basis.

Create a Charitable Allowance

On the web:

1. On the Home screen, select an Impact Account to go to the Impact Account Overview.
2. Select Charitable Allowance in the left navigation.
3. Select the blue Create a Charitable Allowance button.
4. You’ll be given the chance to add recipients and schedule an allowance.

On the mobile app:

1. Log in to your account. You’ll land on the Impact Account Overview.
2. Select your avatar in the top-right corner.
3. From the menu, select on Charitable Allowance.
4. Select the Create new button at the bottom of the screen to start.
5. To edit the name or add a description to the allowance, select the three dots [...] in the top-right corner.
6. Add your recipients and schedule the allowance.

Add recipients to a Charitable Allowance

💡 These steps apply to both the mobile app and web app. 

1. In Step 1: Add recipients, select the + Add button.
2. On the Add recipient screen, enter the recipient’s name.
3. You have two ways to manage the allowance:
   • Manage it yourself: Simply leave the email field blank. You’ll manage and send gifts on the recipient’s behalf using their Impact Account.
   • Invite the recipient to manage it: Enter their email address to invite them. This works best for kids or teens with their own email. They’ll get an invite to access their Impact Account and give to charities directly — while you still retain ownership and visibility.
4. Select Add recipient to save and continue

Add recipients to an existing Charitable Allowance

1. From the Charitable Allowance screen, select the allowance you want to update.

2. On the web: On that allowance’s dashboard, find the Recipients section and select the card Add recipients.

   On the mobile app: On that allowance’s dashboard, find the Recipients section and select Add new card or the Add button on the right side of the Recipients section.  

3. Enter the recipient’s name as described in the previous section.

Accept a Charitable Allowance invite

 For kids and teens

1. Check your email inbox for an invitation to receive a Charitable Allowance.
2. Select the blue Accept invitation button in the email.
3. Fill in your first and last name, and create a password to sign up for an Impact Account.
4. Select Create your Impact Account.
5. Go back to your email inbox and select the verification link to confirm your email address.
6. Log in to your new Impact Account. You’ll land on the Charitable Allowance screen.
7. Select your Charitable Allowance card to view details like your allowance amount and how often you’ll receive it.
8. Select Explore to discover charities and Giving Groups where you can send your allowance.

Schedule an allowance

Once you’ve created a Charitable Allowance and added recipients, you can schedule allowances for them.

On the web:

1. To the right of Step 2: Schedule allowance, select Schedule allowance.
2. In the Amount column, enter an allowance amount per recipient.
3. In the Send date column, pick an upcoming date for the allowance to be sent.
4. Select the Frequency: Weekly, Monthly, or Annually.
5. Select Schedule.

Once the Charitable Allowance is set up, you can also schedule new allowances for existing recipients by selecting the blue Schedule allowance button on the right side of the Charitable Allowance screen.

On the mobile app: 

➤ Option 1: Schedule the same allowance for all recipients

1. Under Step 2 - Schedule allowance, select on + Schedule.

2. On the Amount field, enter the total amount to be scheduled.

   🔹 This amount will apply to all selected recipients by default.

3. Select recipient(s) from the dropdown and select Apply.
4. Review the amounts, then select Continue.
5. Select Edit to choose the start date and frequency (weekly, monthly, or annually).
6. Select Schedule to confirm.

➤ Option 2: Customize the allowance for each recipient

Customize each recipient to receive a different amount at different dates and frequency.

1. Follow steps 1–4 above to begin scheduling.
2. On the review screen, select on individual amounts to adjust them per recipient.
3. Select Continue to move to date and frequency settings.
4. Toggle off Apply to all recipients.
5. Select the edit icon beside each recipient to:
   1. Set a custom amount
   2. Choose a unique date and frequency
6. Select Apply and review your setup. Once you're happy, select Schedule to finalize.
